{"id":144,"date":"2026-05-04T00:03:56","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T08:03:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/robertwest.ca\/blog\/?p=144"},"modified":"2026-05-15T00:17:27","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T08:17:27","slug":"why-customers-reach-out-but-you-still-dont-get-the-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/robertwest.ca\/blog\/2026\/05\/04\/why-customers-reach-out-but-you-still-dont-get-the-job\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Customers Reach Out\u2026 But You Still Don\u2019t Get the Job"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Welcome back \u2014 or if this is your first time here, thanks for stopping by.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I look at a lot of essential trade contractor business websites around the Lower Mainland, and there\u2019s another pattern that shows up all the time:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The customer reaches out.<br>The message comes through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the job still doesn\u2019t happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When contact happens\u2026 but nothing moves forward<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this point, everything might actually be working:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>your <a href=\"https:\/\/robertwest.ca\/blog\/2026\/02\/16\/tap-to-call-not-working-how-many-jobs-are-you-losing\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"125\">phone number connects properly<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>your <a href=\"https:\/\/robertwest.ca\/blog\/2026\/03\/02\/why-your-contact-form-isnt-bringing-in-leads-even-if-it-works\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"127\">forms<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/robertwest.ca\/blog\/2026\/04\/27\/why-people-visit-your-website-but-dont-call-or-message\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"140\">messages<\/a> are coming through<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>customers are <a href=\"https:\/\/robertwest.ca\/blog\/2026\/01\/26\/why-your-website-gets-visitors-but-no-calls\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"117\">able to reach you without issues<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So the problem isn\u2019t getting contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s what happens <strong>after that contact is made.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What this looks like in real situations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This isn\u2019t about major failures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s about timing and consistency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A customer fills out a form and waits hours (or days) for a response<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A text message comes in, but isn\u2019t seen until much later<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A missed call isn\u2019t returned<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A social media message sits unread<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A live chat message comes in after hours and never gets followed up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the business side, it can feel like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI got back to them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the customer\u2019s side, it often feels like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI never heard back.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why timing matters more than most people think<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When someone reaches out, they\u2019re usually not just contacting one business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They\u2019re:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>messaging a few companies<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>checking availability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>trying to get help quickly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Especially for trades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If one business responds quickly and another takes hours, the decision is often already made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because one is better. But because one was there at the right time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where this quietly breaks down<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This usually isn\u2019t intentional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It comes from how messages are handled day-to-day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Notifications aren\u2019t set up properly, so messages aren\u2019t seen right away<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emails come in, but aren\u2019t checked frequently<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Texts arrive, but get buried among personal messages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Different contact methods go to different places<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So even though everything is technically working\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s no reliable system for <strong>seeing and responding quickly.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A simple way to check this<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This isn\u2019t about testing if something works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s about testing how quickly you\u2019d realistically respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Try this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Send yourself a message through your contact form<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Send a text<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Try reaching out through any other method you offer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How quickly would I actually notice this?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Would I see it immediately, or hours later?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Would anything get missed or overlooked?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the answer isn\u2019t \u201cright away,\u201d that\u2019s where the gap is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Consistency matters just as much as speed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not just about being fast once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s about being reliable every time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If someone:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>gets a fast reply one day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>but no reply the next<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">that inconsistency creates the same result as no response at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From their perspective, it\u2019s unpredictable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And when someone needs a service, they don\u2019t want to guess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How this connects to everything else<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Up to this point, we\u2019ve looked at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>getting <a href=\"https:\/\/robertwest.ca\/blog\/2026\/01\/26\/why-your-website-gets-visitors-but-no-calls\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"117\">visitors but not calls<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>issues with <a href=\"https:\/\/robertwest.ca\/blog\/2026\/02\/16\/tap-to-call-not-working-how-many-jobs-are-you-losing\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"125\">calling<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/robertwest.ca\/blog\/2026\/03\/02\/why-your-contact-form-isnt-bringing-in-leads-even-if-it-works\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"127\">forms<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>making sure <a href=\"https:\/\/robertwest.ca\/blog\/2026\/04\/27\/why-people-visit-your-website-but-dont-call-or-message\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"140\">people can actually find your contact info<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>keeping <a href=\"https:\/\/robertwest.ca\/blog\/2026\/04\/13\/why-your-website-and-listings-dont-match-and-why-that-costs-you-calls\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"135\">everything consistent across platforms<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and making sure <a href=\"https:\/\/robertwest.ca\/blog\/2026\/04\/27\/why-people-visit-your-website-but-dont-call-or-message\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"140\">messages actually go through<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the next step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even when all of that is working\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the response isn\u2019t timely and consistent, the opportunity can still be lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why this matters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the moment someone reaches out, they\u2019re often ready to move forward. But that window is short.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If they don\u2019t hear back \u2014 or don\u2019t hear back quickly \u2014 they move on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And just like the other issues, this doesn\u2019t show up as an obvious problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s no error message.
