How Many Jobs Are You Losing?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Welcome back \u2014 or if this is your first time here, thanks for stopping by.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I look at a lot of trade business websites around Vancouver, and one of the most common issues I run into is surprisingly simple:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone tries to call\u2026<br>and it doesn\u2019t quite work the way it should.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not completely broken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just enough friction to make someone give up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When someone tries to call you, it should be instant<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Think about how most people actually use your site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They\u2019re not reading through pages. Often times it&#8217;s an emergency\u2014a burst pipe, a broken AC\/furnace in the dead of summer or winter, locked out of their home or office, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They land on your website, often times by clicking your paid ad, look for your number, and try to call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s no patience in that moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So when they tap your phone number, they expect one thing:<br>\u2192 <strong>their phone opens the dialer immediately with the same number.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s it. If that doesn\u2019t happen, even for a second, they are usually gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What \u201cnot working properly\u201d actually looks like<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This isn\u2019t always obvious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, most business owners test their site and think everything is fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But when you look a bit closer, you start to see things like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The number isn\u2019t actually clickable (it\u2019s just text)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You have to press and hold to copy it and paste it into your phone app<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The tap area is small or inconsistent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are multiple numbers and it\u2019s not clear which one to use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The number works on some devices, but not others<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The number on the button is not the number it dials<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">None of these are too dramatic failures, except maybe the last one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But <a href=\"https:\/\/robertwest.ca\/blog\/2026\/01\/26\/why-your-website-gets-visitors-but-no-calls\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"117\">they all add friction<\/a> at the exact moment someone is trying to contact you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why this matters more than it seems<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When someone decides to call, they\u2019ve already made the decision. They\u2019re not browsing anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They\u2019re acting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So if something slows that down \u2014 even slightly \u2014 you risk losing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And they don\u2019t wait around to figure it out. They go back to Google and they try the next business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The part that makes this easy to miss<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From your side, everything can look normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your number is on the site.<br>Your site loads.<br>Nothing is obviously broken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But unless you test it the same way your customers use it \u2014 quickly, on a phone, without thinking \u2014 it\u2019s easy to miss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A quick way to check your own site<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open your website on your phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t scroll around or read anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just do this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Find your phone number<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does the number in the dialer match?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If anything about that interaction feels:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Slow<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unclear<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Questionable\/sketchy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Or slightly annoying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s exactly the kind of friction that causes people to leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">It&#8217;s one small issue \u2014 with real impact<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is one of those problems that doesn\u2019t look serious from the outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it happens right at the most important moment:<br>\u2192 when someone is trying to contact you<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are customers you&#8217;ve already <em>paid <\/em>for with either time or real money\u2014especially if they got to your homepage by clicking your ad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And because there\u2019s no record of any customer&#8217;s failed attempts to call you, it often goes unnoticed, and they quietly move on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The takeaway<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your website is getting visitors but not turning into calls, this is one of the first things worth checking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because it\u2019s complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because it\u2019s simple and has real impact on getting calls and jobs for your business \u2014 and it&#8217;s so easy to overlook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If you\u2019ve never tested this on your own site, it\u2019s worth a quick look now.<br>Most of these issues aren\u2019t obvious, but they show up right at the worst time.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the next post, I\u2019m going to walk through another common point <a href=\"https:\/\/robertwest.ca\/blog\/2026\/03\/02\/why-your-contact-form-isnt-bringing-in-leads-even-if-it-works\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"127\">where customers drop off:<br>contact forms<\/a> that look like they work\u2026 but don\u2019t actually lead to real inquiries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome back \u2014 or if this is your first time here, thanks for stopping by.
